- Never be afraid, to follow your heart, your dreams, or whatever else. Anything you want in the world can be yours…(and also that i kick pretty dope shit, haha).

  Name: Shavonne DeAnn

Age:20+

Location: Philly

Occupation/Talent: Women's ready-to-wear fashion designer/young entrepreneur.

When did you realize you wanted to become a fashion designer? I realized I wanted to become a fashion designer my junior year of high school when I started cutting up jeans, making stuff for people in the neighborhood and from then on it's something that stayed with me and is meant to be.

What are some of your fashion goals? To be next African American woman to show at NY Fashion week, my clothes sold in stores around the world, my clothes worn on celebs, be universal and have a fashion studio/store/headquarters all in one, set in Philadelphia.

Where do you get your inspiration? My inspiration comes from everywhere from the street to movies. I always keep my eyes peeled so I won't miss anything because inspiration for me comes from everywhere and anything

What does fashion mean to you? Fashion means everything to me, it's my life. It's fun, something I love doing! It's my art that's expressed through my clothes I put out.

What advice do you have for aspiring fashion designers? To always have a positive outlook on your dreams and goals. Stay with it, if your heart is truely passionate about it then that's all that matters. As long as you're happy doing what you love everything else will follow. Love what you do, do what you love! Learn the business side of fashion first, fashion comes second. Take baby steps.

Who are some of your favorite designers? Myself...lol Marc Jacobs, DVF, Alexander Wang, Celine just to name a few.

Name: Hillary A. West
Age: 19
Location: New York City
Occupation: Photographer, Social Media Blogger, Journalist
What do you enjoy most about this type of photography?
-My type of photography really expresses my models in the simplest way. That's always my goal  to capture a person in the most natural state, effectively enough where you almost feel like you know the person once you've seen their picture. there is no other form of photography I agree with. Everything needs to be organic.

What is the most important thing to remember to get a good image?
-When I'm taking a picture, I try to think of multiple things, such as the angle.. especially the angle since everyone looks different. A lot of photographers forget that its okay to focus on ONE part of the face, whether its the eyes, the nose...how the person is reacting to the camera. I make it important to remember the beauty in everyone. The difference in everyone. Simply how I can capture all of that in one shot.

Who are your influences?
-My influences extend fro multiple people. Kanye West being a major one... his style and aggressiveness is a major admiration. I also am inspired by Terry Richardson. His style of photography captures along the same lines of things mine do. I've been told that a lot of times. Other inspirations would have to include my mother, my siblings -- they influence me to follow my dreams, and intuition. Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Carol Guzy, Steve McCurry, Murray Becker, Carl Posey, there's so many!

Do you have a specific photograph by another
photographer that
stands out in your mind?
Why?
-One particular photo that sticks in my mind would have to be a picture of Biggie Smalls, without the original photographer being known. The essence of the picture has always intrigued me, and actually inspired my most recent "black and white beauty campaign." The simplicity of his face, what he's doing, down to the rings on his fingers...I cant really explain how it makes me feel. But its a good feeling.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
-In 5 years? A lot can happen in 5 months, truthfully. So, its almost impossible to say where i see myself. Spiritual and physical growth is a definite. As well as my concepts being clearer, and my view having expanded -- I see nothing but success and happiness in my future. I can't wait to be able to look around at all the things I have worked so hard for, and smile.

What do you like about journalism?
-Journalism is interesting because its really all about what the writer has to say. From the time of publishing, to the time of a person actually taking your work and reading it, it feels like all eyes are on you -- and everything you're saying is being thought about extensively. The thing about writing is, you can create your persona through it, without anyone really knowing who you are. The usage of words, down to the usage of punctuation, the power of writing is immense.

Other than NativHype, who else do you work with?
-Besides NativHype, I write for a couple of other blogs, a magazine based in Los Angelos, a visual art group based in NYC, and a few artists in the area in need of social-network support.

What made you want to start your Blog?

Back in 2011 a couple of friends kept asking "Have you heard about this site named Tumblr? You should make one!" I was thinking it was some ploy to get me to follow them so they can build up their followers, so I said i'll think about it. Overtime I kept hearing about it and in that same year I decided to make one. I started my site like most tumblr bloggers do, reblogging. As my posts perpetuated itself I started getting more complex with my posts. When I noticed that my post about the movie 'Six degrees of Separation' was getting me a lot of notes and hits on my site I decided to change up my posting style, buy a domain name, design a banner for my site, team up with my bro to make a neat background, and set up Google Analytics. I got on my promotion game and started sending my posts to Facebook and Twitter, making business cards and promoting artist from different parts of the globe! An up and coming designer/model/philonoist that I admired named Joshua Kissi said he liked my Tumblr page and requested me on Facebook when my site was just getting started, that complement and admiration propelled me to start taking blogging serious. I've always loved art, I studied piano for 6 years, I had a mini fashion designing phase, I'm very philotechnical, I do photography and work with Photoshop, love film & cinema, Writing, Culture, and lastly I love cooking. So with my love of art being very prominent I decided to make the site "A blog for Artist" later changing it to "A site for Artist" My site hasn't reached its peak, I don't even think it's started. Although I am very proud of my accomplishments, the lord has blessed me.

How would you describe your fashion sense?

Welp, it changes every five months. My first fashion sense phase was in 09 when I first started to actually take pride in my wardrobe. That was very unoriginal. I thought I was Nicki Minaj.....I didn't have the whole rainbow bright hair but I just wore clothes that accentuated my body shape. In 2010 I had the whole 80's leather jacket swag with the leggings, ripped jeans, black wedged heels, and wavy hair. It was still very unoriginal but a step up from NIcki. In 2011 was when I started to watch alot of film noir and get inspired by models like Joshua Kissi on Tumblr. My style was androgynous but it had a bit of femininity. I've always loved men's fashion so during that phase I had lots of fun! The classic phase continued on through 2012 but I tweeked it a bit. I started to mirror more 1940s women's fashion. Films like 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' and 'Charade' by the great Audrey Hepburn inspired my wardrobe. As of now i'm still in that fashion phase. I believe fashion is a fad and just like fads they change from time to time, so whose to say this phase wont last me till March 21 2013.

Who or What is your biggest influences?

My biggest influences are Audrey Hepburn, Jasmine Guy, and Denise Matthews. Classic film and television are some of my biggest influences.

What is your Ultimate Goal?

My ultimate goal are three things
1. To become a blogger for a well known website making a steady income
2. Get my associates in Business Marketing, and Bachelors in Business and become a buyer for J. Crew, Ralph Lauren or another great fashion business.
3. Have a beautiful family, life, and travel the world.

I have many goals but those stand out the most.

How do you feel about Fashion & Music Today?

To be honest I'm saddened by music today. I'm not classifying all musicians under the saddened category, there are some great artist still out there. For the majority of the industry is blinded by the light called fame and will do anything to be the lighted one. As for fashion it's a fad its meant to change with little meaning. I like it I'm an equal-fashionist. Many people have different styles to express themselves which I love! It's when those styles much like music all become the same bullsh** is when i'm saddened.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
I see myself out of my parents house, living in an apartment or a townhouse hopefully. Still expressing myself through art, writing, and fashion. Hopefully i've found that rock that I can plant my feet on and I remain there. My goals often change and i'm praying that by 2017 i'll have the same goal and i'll be closer to achieving it.

What made yall want to start Painting?
Painting has always come as a natural instinct for me. I have never been good at expressing myself verbally, so painting is my form of communication.

When Did You Start Making Art?
I started making art at the age of 4. I’ve always drawn pictures for my family, and doodled all over every notebook I’ve ever owned.

Who or What is your biggest influences?
My biggest influence is Mother Nature. Every sunrise and sunset is new palette for me. Most of my creative energy sparks when I am in the presence of trees, rivers and the Sun. As long as I am outside, I am ever-inspired.

What is your Ultimate Goal?
My ultimate goal is to nourish the youth. My movement is CREARTIVITY which stands for “Create Relative Energy Amongst Real Talented Indi-Viduals In Today’s Youth”. CREARTIVITY is the ideology that when energy is passed from artist to artist, and channeled towards the nourishment of our youth, we have the power to recreate the world around us.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
In 5 years I will be in a jungle or savanna somewhere in Africa. My passion is traveling the world, so I am spending my life doing so.

What would you say to any other aspiring artist?

You were created in light of Love so spread love through your creations.

Name: Paige Enjoli Fraser

Age: 21

Location: Bronx,NY

Talent: Dance/Model/Acting

Tumblr: crumpledpaiges.tumblr.com

What got you into dancing? Well I started dancing at the age of four. My parents put me in dance, swimming, ice skating but I only seemed to like dancing. I trained in a Ballet studio in Westchester for about 10 years until I began highschool.

In highschool I attended Professional Performing Arts High School in Manhattan as a dance major at the Ailey School. At that point I was exposed to many other forms of dance aside from Ballet such as;  Modern, Jazz, African. Following highschool I went to college in California and studied at Alonzo King Lines Ballet. In that program I was exposed to  contemporary ballet, which I love to do.

Following my freshman year, I decided I wanted to transfer to Fordham University in New York. Fordham University had a dance program (Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance) at the Ailey School. My junior year at Fordham/Ailey I was offered an apprenticeship with Ailey II. Ailey II is the junior company to Alvin American Dance Theatre. It is a company of 12; 6 girls and 6 boys offering a 2 year contract. Ailey II makes both domestic and international tours.

I am currently in my senior year at Fordham as well as touring with Ailey II. It is a dream come true to be touring and performing at such a young age. I am grateful for everything and all the coaching and support from my directors and mentors. It has been a great journey so far.

how does dance inspire you?
Dance inspires me in so many ways. The fact that there are so many dance pioneers before my generation, really motivates me to make my own legacy. I admire the dancers that came before me. Dance pioneers such as Alvin Ailey, Arthur Mitchell, Tally Beatty really voiced their opinions through their dancing. They broke the raciam barriers that had kept African Americans off the stage for so many years. That alone is inspiring, because it showed passionate they were about dance.
What kind of emotions do you feel/give off when you dance?
Dance is my outlet. When I am performing on stage, I feel a rush of emotions. Depending on what I am performing I may decide to dedicate it to a family member or a friend in need of prayer. Or many times I use a performance to release any negativity or frustrations I may have.

If Im having nervous emotions before a performance I try to center that into something else. A teacher or mine is famous for saying "Lets celebrate with the audience" (Mr.Moore) and I use that to remind myself why I do what I do.

It is always a great feeling to the entire audience standing on their feet screaming ENCORE at the ende of a performance. That alone leaves me feeling accomished because I've suceeded at touching someone in the audience.

What are some of your goals for dance?
My main goal is to grow deeper as a dancer/performer. I hope to contine dancing professionally for many years. After my time with Ailey II, I hope to move onto Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre (first company), Dance Theatre of Harlem, Alonzo King Lines, and Philadanco. I also enjoy acting so I may also look into dancing on Broadway at some point.

I also want to build a name for myself. I want to be a dancer that people admire. I know growing up I had plenty of role models. Its a great feeling to be inspired by another dancer because it makes you see things in a different way. You leave the theatre wanting to dance and that's the best feeling.

Do you have any dancer role models?
My role models would be: Aesha Ash, Misty Copeland, Linda Celeste, Olivia Bowman, Briana Reed, Matthew Rushing, Desmond Richardson, Clifton Brown, Camille Brown (etc).

do you take any other styles of dance or not? If not, would you like
to try any other style?
During my dance training, I have been exposed to Ballet, Modern, Jazz, African, Tap, and Hip Hop. There isn't anything else I would want to try. I would suggest that dancers try all forms of dance ao they are well rounded.
